Life becomes simple when we live beyond our egos. This is what I have found to be the case in my limited experience of living beyond ego. During the last two months, I have been working hard on releasing my ego. This work require constant observations of my ego’s reactions, including arising fears, reactions of painbody, obsessive thoughts, and yearning of desires. They arise in the unconscious state.
As with all spiritual work, ego also has many layers, since ego is complex. As I progress, I am recognizing these layers, and addressing each layer as they arise. Sometimes, this can feel relentless, and require constant vigilance to observe the ego consciously. These layers are difficult to address sometimes because they tap into our deepest parts of our psyche such as yearning for our desires.
When we yearn for our desires, they are connected to our emotional landscapes based on attachment or dependency. These desires are created by our earliest experiences of these desires. It may be our first sexual experience, the feelings of the first time we got what we we really wanted, or the first feelings of love. Our ego desires to repeat these good feelings again, and resort to those feelings particularly during times of crisis or difficulties in our lives. This is why many resort to addictions because they make us feel good when we face difficulties in our lives.
The way out of this cycle is through observing the ego, and not reacting to the compulsions of ego. To explore “Observing Ego Practice,” please see this tab on my Blogsite homepage. Observing ego practice takes discipline and vigilance every minute of everyday, but the work is well worth the rewards of living a simpler life with less suffering.
