Reflections Upon Still Waters

Life has some very interesting ironies that is we can see our lives clearly mirrored within those around us.  These reflections are like looking into a perfectly still pond where we can see our own reflections upon its calm waters.  This has been my experience so far on my spiritual journey.  When we have this awareness, we are able to see our reflections clearly.

Two and a half years ago, I met some very interesting people, a man and his married lover.  These two people served to help me see my life for what it was.  What I saw in my life was this unhealthy emotional dependency with my father, resulting from childhood abuse, that I displaced onto the men in my life, and in this instance, it was this man.  His married lover played the role of my mother who I had this very unhealthy competitive relationships with, also resulting from my childhood abuse, as my mother is mentally ill and was unable to protect me against my father, so she blamed me for the abuse.

In each of our circumstances, this man was involved with a woman who is unavailable in that she is married to another, and I was involved with a man who is  emotional unavailable because he was involved with this married woman.  As this man and I became healthier from our emotional healing and spiritual work, he began to lose his dependency on his married lover, and I too began to lose my dependency on him.  Over the course of time, I was able to break free from him, and ultimately, I believe that he will break free from her as well.   In each of our situations, we outgrew our own dependency or attachments.

The parallels between our two situations were uncanny, and allowed me to see my own situation quite clearly by acknowledging the unhealthy basis of this dynamic that existed.  This was a huge life lesson for me to learn.  Because of these experiences, I was able to set healthy boundaries with him, and he was able to set healthy boundaries with his married lover.  I believe that we are both in better places now as we have outgrown these unhealthy dynamics.  May you see your reflection upon still waters, Brooke (Copyright 2013 Kundalini Spirit with All Rights Reserved).
