One of my greatest struggles is letting go of ego. As you know, our egos create negative emotions within us such as fear, greed, jealousy, envy, resentment, anger, etc. This is a continuous struggle sometimes during every minute of every day. As I am trying to release ego, it is fighting back pretty hard every day now. I know what my life will feel like without ego as it is peaceful, calm, and joyous. This is the place where my soul wants to reside.
The first step to releasing ego, I believe, is to set our intentions to let it go. That also means that we cannot nourish our ego’s need such as seeking praise, approval, adoration, and acceptance externally from others. Jealousy for me is a form of ego’s seeking this praise, approval, adoration, and acceptance, and when I see that others get this from the one I love, I become jealous.
Refusing to feed ego’s demands is the second step. I use ego observing practice to watch ego objectively as not to react to its demands. However, because we refuse to nourish ego’s demands, these needs within are still not being met. In the third step, we must work on self love that is accepting ourselves for who we are, forgiving ourselves for making mistakes, and finally giving ourselves what we need emotionally and physically to thrive and succeed.
When we can release ego in this manner, and rewired ourselves with self love instead of seeking this love externally from others, including praise, approval, adoration, and acceptance, we begin to change the course of our soul lives to one that we are intended to live.
