The Art of Surrender

Today is a beautiful day in the mountains where I live with the sun shining and birds singing. I spent most of my day flameworking that is working with hot glass on a torch. It was the perfect day to create something beautiful in glass reflecting this wonderful day in spring. Β It has been almost six months since I last flameworked, so I felt a little rusty at it.

As I began to create my piece, I very much wanted to control everything about my creation. Β As you can imagined, the glass refused to cooperate, and I needed to start over. Β As I began again, I consciously shut off the left side of my brain, the side that wants to control, that wants to repeat procedures, and that wants to this process done quickly. Β As I shut off the left side of my brain, I began to feel relaxed, I lost track of time, and I began to give into the will of the glass. Β In other words, I surrendered.

This is the art of surrender, with pun intended. Β When we surrender, we accept the process that we are in, we trust in the process, and we have faith in a positive outcome of this process. Β The is how spiritual surrender works as well. Β When we are deep into our spiritual journey, this surrender to the process is important. Β I know that this is difficult as we are not talking about creating with glass, but we are talking about our lives.

Nevertheless, it is the same process to achieve peace and contentment for our lives. Once we have done our very best in an endeavor, we let it go, and live without expectation of a particular outcome. Β Instead of our left brain always questioning why is this not working for me, and trying to control every aspect of our lives, and its outcome, we live with knowing that we are on our path, that this is our chosen path, and have faith in the outcome of our lives on this path.

I still work on surrender every day as it is one of the most difficult aspects of spiritual practice. May you learn surrender to find your peace and contentment for your life, Brooke (Copyright 2014 Kundalini Spirit with All Rights Reserved)
