Yesterday, a colleague called me to share her great news that she has been elected to the presidency of her professional association. I was thrilled for her and congratulated her on this achievement. However, she shared that she must do public speaking in her role and that she is terrified of this experience and is so nervous speaking in public.
When I first began my career, I also needed to speak publically for my job, and for many years, I was told that I was too nervous and did not present well. For a long time, I could not figure out why, and from where this nervousness stemmed. As I began my spiritual and emotional healing work five years ago, I realized that the fear of public speaking is the fear of being judged by others and the fear of not being accepted.
When we learn to accept ourselves as we are and change those things about ourselves that we cannot accept, then we have finally reached a place in our lives of true freedom. As I continued on my journey of healing and self discovery, my public speaking experience became easier and easier. Now, I am able to speak very personally about myself to thousands of people without any fear of judgment because I finally have come to accept myself for who I am.
