Chasing Illusions

fdnadDuring our spiritual awakening, we come to realize that our perceptions created by our ego are merely illusions.  When our ego desires something or someone, we create illusions about them.  For example, we desire someone to be our love, then we perceive them as perfect, flawless, perfect for us, and place them on a pedestal.  During our awakening, we begin to see our life, relationships, jobs, etc. to be who and what they truly are.

Awakening is difficult for the psyche because it is our psyche waking up from a deep slumber.  Awareness is actually our psyche seeing clearly beyond our illusions and see our world as it really is.  Why do we create these illusions?  I believe, it is to pacify our egos.  What ego wants, ego gets.  In order to pacify the ego, we create these illusions so as to justify the ego’s desire.  For example, we may believe that of course, we want this person as our lover because s/he is perfect and perfect for me.

The rude awakening occurs when the relationship fails, we are disenchanted with the career, or we are disappointed with the object of our desires. Then the psyche tries to understand and unravel these inconsistencies.  This is why awakening is rude, because we must reconcile these two juxtapositions.  How can they be perfect for me on the one hand, and the relationship fail on the other?

The realization that our ego drives our desires, and these desires create these very convincing illusions is the first step.  Awareness of our ego’s desires can help us better navigate our spiritual journeys and paths in life.  Awareness is always the first step to overcoming our obstacles, and our illusions are big obstacles on our spiritual path.
