I have been volunteering at a local hospital providing Reiki treatments to patients. I recently had a misunderstandings involving my volunteer supervisor. He does not communicate well with his own staff or other hospital staff which resulted in a hospital staff complaining about his lack of communication to his supervisor. Furthermore, it seems that when I follow this supervisor’s directions, I end up in some conflict with others at the hospital.
Ever since that incident, he has seen me as the problem in the Reiki program and has reprimanded me about things that could have been addressed quite simply. These events have caused me to dread this volunteer job. However, because I am committed to helping the patients at this hospital, I continued volunteering weekly.
Recently, my supervisor asked the Hospital’s Volunteer Office to assign me to another location about 30 minutes away, since no Reiki practitioner is assigned there. When he suggested this to the Volunteer Office personnel in my presence, I did not react negatively, but merely replied that I would consider which date I am available and will get back with them. Ironically, before heading to the hospital that morning, I sensed that I no longer would be working with this supervisor. Coincidentally, one of my clients also has been asking me about Reiki at this new location because it is where she lives.
What began as a difficult and challenging situation has resulted in a new opportunity for me without further weekly interactions with this supervisor! Even better, my client has decided to continue Reiki treatments with me at this new location. It is a win-win situation with more autonomy for me and, hopefully, fewer conflicts at the hospital going forward. I believe my prayers were answered, as I sent positive thoughts and forgiveness to this supervisor so that my situation would improve.
