I live in California, and our Governor issued a lockdown for our state limiting us from leaving our homes except for groceries, medication, emergencies, and walking our companion dogs. As with China, Italy, and the rest of Europe and Asia, the lockdown has reduced pollution improving air quality and water quality, and the earth is healing during this time of lockdown for human. Humans are driving less, traveling less, and generally consuming less of the Mother Nature’s resources.
Mother Nature has given us pandemics on other occasions during human history due to unsanitary living conditions, humans living in close quarters, and humans working in close proximity to animals. The major pandemics included the Bubonic plague, Cholera, Small Pox and influenza that returned to infect humans more than once in human history. Human population was reduced significantly during these pandemics. Quarantines were first used in Italy during one of the Bubonic plague outbreaks where sailors from ships entering Venice were not permitted to disembark for 40 days called the “quarantino,” and now we call this isolation, “quarantine.”
Now, we add the COVID-19, the novel Coronavirus to this list of pandemics. Human must again be quarantined to save our population from reduction and serious illness. It is a time to heed the precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones, but there is just so much we can do individually. Our egos want to control outcome, and when that perception of control is undermine, we feel fear, anxiety, and anger.
I observed many on social media including myself becoming angry at this pandemic. This was true for me, particularly when young adults are going to Florida beaches during spring break, while the COVID-19 is spreading across the globe. Young people in the U.S. have died two weeks after contracting this deadly virus. It is not an infection of the elderly, but a pandemic effecting all humans.
During this time, we cannot control or calm this “storm” by Mother Nature. The only thing we can do is calm ourselves, and take this time to self care and heal ourselves. Meditate, practice yoga, practice Tai Chi, practice Qi Gong, exercise, make art, write music, write poetry or your next novel, read a good book, make healthy meals, clean your house/apartment, and most of all, spend quality time with your loved ones. May you be safe and healthy during this pandemic. Sending healing love and light! (Copyright 2020 Awakening Journey with All Rights Reserved)
