Can We Change Our Souls?

tumblr_mgslopqmY91rdes1jo1_500

Last night, I had a discussion with a friend about whether we can change our souls.  My belief is that a soul is born into this world, and our souls are who we truly are within.  I believe that we can change our behaviors and beliefs, but that our souls remain the same.  My friend believes that we can change who we are fundamentally, that is if we are selfish people, we can change to be more giving people.  I am not sure that we actually disagree with each other.

Since I have memories of past lives, I have known others who I have met in this lifetime.  What I have observed is that the soul remains essentially the same as I remember them in an earlier lifetime.  I have observed that in their spiritual practice in this lifetime they are attempting to change some of their behaviors.  What is amazing to me is that their values and behaviors in the earlier lifetime are very similar to their values and behaviors in this lifetime.

The soul has a personality, beliefs, and behaviors intrinsic to each soul.  Our soul’s personality remain essentially the same, but it is the beliefs and behaviors that we may alter or change.  However, with that said, I believe that it takes great efforts and determination to change those beliefs and behaviors.  Many people say that we are who we are, and there certainly is some truth to this.  I certainly don’t have all the answers.  Any thoughts out there?   Blessings of light, Brooke (Copyright 2013 Kundalini Spirit with All Rights Reserved)

  1. Hi Brooke, this is a very interesting post and question. I’m not sure either, but I’m inclined to agree that there is an essence of us that always remains the same, which may be the soul. Whilst we have a certain amount of leverage in terms of changing certain behaviours, working through past issues etc, the fundamental lessons we are here to learn may manifest in our personal values and beliefs in this world and thus they cannot change completely. Just my thoughts, as I certainly don’t know either.

  2. Hi Brooke,
changing beliefs and behaviours are nothing but the Samskaras or mental impressions… all though the Soul remains the same through out our lives birth and rebirth, but i also feel with my experience that there are lot of impurities and negative impressions stored in us from our past lives, these impressions need to be cleansed as we pass on from one life to another, this … is also mentioned in the Bible that ..” as metals mined from the earth have earthly impurities attached to the metal itself, so too our hearts!
God seeks through trials and afflictions to separate from us those earthly attachments…”
Also a Soul needs to mature Grow and learn as it passes through different stages.
not only that a point comes where the soul has to burn its desires lust and dissolve its Ego in order to move forward in its evolutionary journey of life..these are the big hurdles that stops us from moving forward into further evolution… i feel that as we march through different re incarnations we gather much dust and impressions in our consiousness and a point comes when we need to get rid of these impressions attached to our soul and consiouness

    1. I am at one of my biggest hurdle now of letting go of my past. I realize that my past is filled with hurt and pain, those impurities and impressions you speak of. The pain is great in letting go of who we believe we are in order to become who we are meant to be. It is coming to acceptance of this perceived loss that can help us move forward. 3. I think our soul’s, fundamentally, stay the same. I grow, learn, evolve, but at the core of my being remains the foundation.

      1. This in psychological terms is called transference. I have some short term ways of dealing with energy transference and then a long term solution. For the short term, I use energy cleansing done through imagery or meditation of releasing negative or dark energy out of my energy body, and bringing cleansing white light into my energy body. I also use white light around my aura to protect it against others. However, the real work is the long term solution. I realized that what I experience from others is really the energy within me. I use emotional release practice found on this tab of my Blogsite Homepage to deal with deep rooted emotional traumas and issues. Once I release this darkness within me, I no longer react to others with this darkness. This phenomenon is explained through the Universal Law of Attraction that like attracts like. I hope this sheds some light on this issue. Blessings of light, Brooke

  5. A soul or clear-light is fundamentally different from ‘self’. It carries habits and virtues, and acquires more of the latter each life time. Our essence is nearly always hidden from us, by our mental world, but Silence and Awe might bring you into contact. So a soul changes over lifetimes, but the process can speed up at times.

      1. On another account, someone told me a long time ago that she is a “walk-in”, swapping souls for the same body …. she seemed to be quite convinced of her statement.
