Emotional and Physical Release through Yoga

Image

Earlier this week, I experienced extreme tightness in the muscles around my neck and upper back. After an amazing therapeutic massage and Reiki energy reading by an intuitive healer, she advises that I am holding a lot of emotions in those muscles affecting my fascia. Fascia is a structure of connective tissue that surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, binding some structures together, while permitting others to slide smoothly over each other.  As I have been doing extensive healing work and experiencing extraordinary emotional release and spiritual progress recently, I am not as all surprised to hear this.

She suggests that more sessions of yoga to loosen my fascia will help with my flexibility and physical discomforts. Although I have been practicing yoga for many years, I decided to take an hour and half of a beginner yoga session, so that I can focus on yogic breathing rather than struggling with the asana postures.  This was the best decision as the sessions were slower because it was taught at the beginner level, and I had more time to lengthen my yogic breathing creating deeper moving meditation during this yoga practice, rather than doing a stretching exercise.  Because of the hour and a half session, I was able to stay longer in the deeper moving meditation.

During various asanas, I observed emotions rising and releasing as I breathed in and out.  There were many emotions from just today that were released, but I also felt older emotions rising and releasing as well.  After this yoga session, I felt this aching in my upper back and neck where I normally hold stress and emotions, like the muscles just let go. I had not had this experience before during yoga, so it was such a pleasant surprise. Try yoga as moving meditation to release emotional and physical pain.
