This morning, I went through my earlier posts to see the progress I made to date. One of the techniques I use while I am in crisis or at cross roads in my current life is to recollect what I experienced during an earlier crisis, and how I feel about it today. In these times, I recall the earlier crisis as a faded memory like looking at a old faded black and white photo from long ago. The memory no longer stings, and the emotional pain is less acute or non-existent.
As I struggle in my current life with crises, I also know that these feelings are fleeting even if they feel extremely painful right now. When emotional pain feels less acute and the memory becomes less clear, this is a sign of healing taking place. I recall when I suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), pain from long ago may be triggered to feel like it’s happening today. I finally healed from PTSD, and my responses to everyday crises are substantially different now.
As a more healed person now, I know that whatever I am struggling with today, it is temporary, fleeting, and will soon pass. This technique helps me cope with whatever obstacles, hurdles, or conflicts I am facing today. I also learned that letting go of the past and those from my past is a necessary part of moving forward and emotional/spiritual progress. It is no longer my job to please everyone, and not everyone will like or love me in the world. That is okay with me now. (Copyright 2019 Awakening Journey with All Rights Reserved)
