Following Our Calling

For the last few months, I have been wondering if I am on the right path when it comes to my career.  I took job at a college in a small rural mountain town two years ago, and have been asked to accomplish a difficult job of working with sexual assaulted students, faculty, and staff, dealing with discrimination problems on campus, and bringing diversity to a conservative and religious population. When I was offered this job, I heard a calling to come here to help those on campus  who never had a voice or received help.

There are many days that I am too exhausted to even get up in the morning, and never feel rested even on the weekends.  Even under this pressure and exhaustion, I look forward to working particularly with the students as I feel that I am able to help them change the quality of their lives.  I received help myself in college to recognize my childhood abuse, and began psychological counseling there to change and begin improving my life.  In the same way, I am helping these college students.

Every time I question my path here, I receive a clear message to keep going. Today was such a day, when a faculty from another college in Pennsylvania came to visit and asked to meet with me as she is researching for a paper she is writing on diversity on college campuses similar to her institution.  Coincidentally, I am writing a report on this subject this week. We shared invaluable information that will help me make recommendations to change the climate of our college.

After our meeting today, I realize this is yet another person sent to help me on my mission here.  These blessings are given to me because I am here to help others, and not for my own gain.  While living here, I have had to give up things in my life such as being with others more like me, and living a more urban lifestyle.  On the other hand, I have met many dear friends, found a community where others care for me, and found those to share a connection whether in the outdoors, art, music, or spirituality.

I feel that I am given all that I need to call this place home, although I would not necessarily have found this place otherise.  Maybe the Universe is helping me build my home wherever I am suppose to be?  May you find your home through your calling.  Blessings of love to you! 1. Certainly synchronicity is a good indicator that you are on the right track! It’s the Universe saying, “You are doing good things. Carry on!”
