On our spiritual journeys, our goal is to find our path out of darkness. We may be fooled by our ego’s illusions. We may like the feel of darkness. It is after all very enticing and exciting! Darkness feels chaotic, alluring, addictive, co-dependent, and even exciting. It is like the drug that makes us feel good, escape, and zoned and numbed out. This is how I would describe darkness as I have experienced it myself.
Contrary to what everyone believes that darkness is unpleasant and frightening; it isn’t! Ask a person who is a drug addict whether drugs feel frightening. Ask a gambler if gambling feels bad. Ask a philanderer if having an affair is unpleasant to them. Darkness feels great, and it is our drug of choice!
Another sign that we are living in darkness is that we live in denial, and blame everyone around us for our choosing to use our drug of choice. We will blame others when our drug of choice has caused us failures in relationships, marriages, careers, jobs, and education. These failures are warning signs that our lives are on the wrong path. Do not ignore these warning signs of darkness!
The only way out of darkness is to make a different choice and change our behaviors. Making a different choice means to leave our drug of choice behind, find people and activities that no longer have these behaviors, and begin to take responsibility for our lives by no longer blaming others for our failures.
We are responsible for what we do, our choices, our failures, as well as our successes. Look to no others for what is happening in our lives as it is up to us to change our path to light, and leave the darkness behind us. May you find your path out of darkness into the light for this is self love. (Copyright 2015 Living Wide Awake with All Rights Reserved)
