As I have observed, certain people in our lives are sent to help us overcome our fears. The truth is these fears are within us, and we may have suppressed them consciously or even repressed them subconsciously. These individuals usually remind us of our past and can trigger these fears within us instantly. Our tendency is to blame them for feeling this fear, but the truth is anyone can trigger this fear as this fear is within us.
In the past, when I was triggered, I would run away through avoidance, and simply blame them for feeling this fear called denial. After running away for most of my life, I am confronting these fears now. I am beginning to understand why I feel these fears as they mostly relate to past events in my life associated with my parents. These fears were ingrained in my psyche during my formative years as a child through abuse and trauma, and now I react in the same way when I am reminded of my past.
I have been using the observing and nonreactive technique called Emotional Release Practice to work through these fears. Please click on this link for the specific technique: Emotional Release Practice. The most difficult part of this technique is to stop yourself before reacting.
Once you practice this technique, you will learn to take a breath and calm yourself before you begin to react to fears or other negative emotions. As you continue to practice this technique, you will get more proficient at stopping your instant triggered reaction before you begin to react.
