True Love is Not Blind

As I have come into a new phase of my emotional healing and spiritual growth, I am learning more and more about myself.  One thing I recently have come to realize is that love is not blind, ignorant, or naive, but truthful and realistic.  In the past, my love for those in my life was blind and naive.  I wanted to believe things about those I love in an idealistic and naive way.  I made myself believe those I love fit my ideals, but when I learned the truth about them, I became disappointed and dissatisfied.

Unconditional love is not blind at all. In fact, to love others unconditionally is to understand who they really are, flawed and wounded, but we still accept them for who they are.  We may not be able to be with them or they may not be able to be with us, but we accept this for what it is.  This acceptance of truth and reality is part of unconditional love. It is not naive or ignorant as we no longer pretend they are who we want them to be, but we see them very realistically and honestly.

In spite of this reality, we can still love others without condition, without judgment, without resentment, without fear, and without anger.  For the first time in my life, I am experiencing this kind of love.  I accept others for who they are as I no longer am fearful they may hurt me.  I am able to encounter many different personalities and coexist with them, although I prefer certain people more than others.  Now, I no longer run away in fear. This is how we truly love others, as it is no longer blind ignorance.

When we become more and more healed, we are able to engage with many more people who are difficult or wounded without reaction as they no longer trigger the wounds and hurts within  us.  May you love others unconditionally. Blessings of love! (Copyright 2014 Living Wide Awake with All Rights Reserved)
