The power of denial is undeniable, and only with awareness can we overcome the power of our natural tendency to deny our reality. This can be seen in a study on whether women who work with colleagues diagnosed with breast cancer are more likely to screen for breast cancer. This study involved 7,000 women who worked with colleagues diagnosed with breast cancer in the same company over the course of three years . I heard this study on a news program on National Public Radio on, “How A Co-Worker’s Breast Cancer Diagnosis Affects Colleagues.” Please click on the title for the actual NPR program that I heard today.
These are the interesting results. Women who worked with colleagues diagnosed with breast cancer were less likely to screen for breast cancer, and the closer in physical proximity to where this colleague with breast cancer worked, the less likely they were to screen for breast cancer. The more severe the colleague’s breast cancer diagnosis also resulted in less likelihood for screening for themselves.
What this study shows is that women in this study simply did not want to know that they too may have breast cancer by refusing to screen for breast cancer, thereby denying that they may have breast cancer themselves. Denial may be an inherent part of the human psyche as humans are more likely to deny our reality and simply not deal with real problems in our lives.
It is through self awareness and actively working against our human instincts that will allow us to overcome our natural tendency of denying our reality. Ironically, I just had my mammogram yesterday, so get screened today! Infinite healing light. (Copyright 2014 Kundalini Spirit with All Rights Reserved)
