As I am working through releasing my ego, I have periods of fear, anxiety, and panic. These feelings arise around the loss of relationships, friends, and the life I now know. I have lived with my ego for this entire lifetime and many lifetimes before this. How will I cope, who will I become, and how will my life be? Ironically, this is the work of my ego asking these very questions, refusing to let go.
I notice that as I am working to release ego, ego’s resistance becomes stronger and brings about these bouts of fear, anxiety, and panic. As I write this post, I come to clarity of what I am currently experiencing. The trick is to steer away from mental processing that is thinking about what makes us afraid, thereby feeding into the fear and anxiety. There are ways of coping with this fear as we work through releasing ego:
Deep breathing exercises – As these periods of fear, anxiety and panic arise, do some belly breathing. This is done by exhaling all the air from your belly, then inhaling air to fill your entire belly, Repeat until the fear dissipates. Another breathing technique is alternating nostril breathing; this can help with balancing and calming. To do this, with your third finger on one nostril and thumb on the other, take a deep breath in as you release one finger than exhale and release the another finger. Repeat until the anxiety and fear subsides.
Acknowledging the fear, anxiety, or panic – Acknowledge that we are experiencing these emotions. Allow it to come up within you, do not react to this emotion, then release this emotion like a balloon into the sky and watch it float away. I will admit that this takes some practice before we can resist reacting to these emotions.
Naming the fear – When we name the fear, such as fear of loss, fear of the unknown, etc. We accept the fear as part of this process. It is normal and natural to experience this when releasing ego. Accept your experience just as it is.
Seeing the big picture – As we progress through the ascension process, during every major change or overcoming a hurdle, we will re-experience fear and anxiety. Our psyche reacts in this way to the unknown, to changes, and to uncertainty. Surrender by accepting and trusting in the process.
Love your smaller self – Comfort your smaller self that feels separate and experiences duality. Tell her that everything will be okay, and assure her that she is not alone and is protected during this process. Once the smaller self merges with the higher self, this need will be diminished.
