I have evidenced in my own life of what fear can do to us. It causes great emotional suffering, creates physical ailments and mental illnesses, and prevents us from reaching our highest potential. It is our egos controlling us making us live in a limited life! What is worse is that it allows others to control us through our fears. I have witnessed perfectly intelligent and educated people be manipulated and coerced to do unthinkable things, such as genocide, discriminate, hurt others, and most commonly, escape and run away from their lives and problems.
The opposite of love is fear. When we feel fear, we must have awareness of this fear. In this moment, we can make a choice not to feed into this fear. I have seen others say things to make me afraid, particularly in relationships or situations, such as be careful, beware, and be cautioned that others don’t hurt you or you may fail. People mean well by these statements, but they are more about their own fears of their life than really about you. Believing these statements prevent us from reaching our highest potential!
When we give into fear, it is a choice we make every moment of every day. Our natural instinct, unfortunately, is to give into this fear, but the truth is that even this is a choice we make unconsciously. Next time you feel fear rise up within, make a decision not to give into this fear. Tell yourself, others cannot hurt me, only I can hurt myself and suffer by giving into my fears. This is called self love. May you overcome your fears every day. (Copyright 2015 Living Wide Awake with All Rights Reserved)
